Natural Skin Care Products From Jojoba Butter To Coconut Oil

Author: <a title="Anne Harvester" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'anne-harvester/9558">Anne Harvester

Skin care products made from natural sources feed the skin with vitamins and nutrients that are otherwise often processed out of commercial products with synthetic chemicals. Some of the best types of oils and butters for making your skin look radiant and your hair shine are jojoba butter, grape seed oil, hemp seed oil, coconut oil and bulk shea butter. Natural oils and butters that come from vegetable and nut sources turn out to be more than culinary delights. They contain essential fatty acids known to be necessary factors for resilient, healthy skin. The oils and butters have varying textures and hardness, but all of them absorb into the body’s layers in varying capacities and can be blended or used alone for different effects.

Jojoba Butter

Jojoba butter is created from the waxy jojoba oil of the seeds of the jojoba shrub and is similar to the sebum found on human and other mammal skin. Jojoba butter is colorless and odorless, a skin softener, and used as a thickener and moisturizer in cosmetics. Its oils are natural carriers for perfumes and essential oils into the skin.

Grapeseed Oil
Grapeseed oil is extracted from the seeds of wine grapes. It helps regenerate cell membranes and is a preferred cosmetic ingredient for wrinkles in the delicate tissue around the eyes. It is believed to contain a high level of antioxidants for fighting toxins and to have antiseptic and astringent properties.

Hemp Seed Oil
Hemp seed oil is a versatile vegetable oil produced from the pressed seeds of the hemp plant. It contains both omega-6 and omega-3 essential fatty acids and is a rich moisturizer used alone or added to lotions and other oils.

Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is unique for its broad spectrum of uses as a cosmetic and culinary. Its saturated fat was thought for a time to be unhealthy, but in used raw or unrefined, it heals skin and promotes healthy hormones. Used alone or in combination with other oils and butters, it moisturizes and feeds the skin.

Shea Butter
Shea Butter is a rich natural fat that comes from the boiled and crushed nut seed of the African shea tree. It is used in countless cosmetics as a moisturizer. Many people buy bulk shea butter for its exceptional uses beyond moisturizing, as a healing and anti-aging agent. Shea butter is known for its healing properties that allow the skin to breathe. It has been known to help acne, eczema, psoriasis, wrinkles, chapped lips, burns and scars—even arthritis. It is also a natural sunscreen. Bulk shea butter is also good as a hair treatment, moisturizing dry or damaged hair from the roots to the very tips, while penetrating the scalp without clogging pores.

Choosing The Right Magnifying Mirror
Author:

Choosing The Right Magnifying Mirror

Author: <a title="Chris Johnson" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'chris-johnson/361247">Chris Johnson

Magnifying mirrors, also known as cosmetic mirrors or make up mirrors, are one of the most utilized items in a bathroom today. Contemporary magnifying mirrors come in many different forms and finishes, and understanding each type will help you pick one for you very own bathroom. So here is a quick summary on all the different types of luxury magnifying mirrors that are available in the market.

The first choice one needs to make when picking their magnifying mirror is whether they want a lighted magnifying mirror or not. There are many different lights used for magnifying mirrors such as LED, fluorescent, or incandescent. LED, which stands for light-emitting diode, is the most expensive form of light in the market due to the lower energy consumption and longer lifetime. Fluorescent and incandescent lights utilize different light bulbs, however, these lights are similar in price range.

Lighted magnifying mirrors are single-sided and have two choices of magnification; 3x and 5x. On the other hand, magnifying mirrors that are not lighted are usually double-sided. “Double-sided” mirrors have one side with regular magnification, and another side with a magnification of 3x, 5x, or 7x.

Another option one must consider when selecting their mirror is whether they want it to be wall mounted, counter-standing or hand held. Wall mounted mirrors usually have extendible arms allowing the user to adjust it to their preference. Counter-standing and hand held magnifying mirrors are more popular choice due to the fact that they allow for more mobility.

High quality magnifying mirrors are usually made in brass and are plated with a finish. Popular finish choices include chrome, gold, satin nickel, polished nickel, and more. Often gold and satin nickel finishes tend to be a little more expensive than chrome finish.

Hopefully, you now have a broader knowledge of magnifying mirrors and are now ready to pick the right one for your bathroom. Take a look at the magnifying mirrors page on TheBathOutlet for a good selection of high quality magnifying mirrors. You can also view the bathroom accessories page for other accessories.
Olive Oil Skin Care Products

Author: <a title="Peter Nisbet" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'peter-nisbet/5274">Peter Nisbet

That olive oil skin care products care for your skin is underlined by the fact that Cleopatra used it on her skin, as did the ancient Romans and Greeks. This is because olive oil conditions your skin in a natural way, but why was the olive chosen by those living around the Mediterranean to enhance their natural beauty and maintain youthfulness?

The appearance or condition of your skin has a very significant impact on how people regard you and assess your age. Somebody with wrinkled skin appears older than somebody with clear smooth skin, even though they might be of the same chronological age. Your skin degrades for a large number of reasons, not the least of which is the effect of free radicals generated by strong sunlight, excessive smoking and atmospheric pollution. As you will shortly learn, olive oil skin care products can destroy these free radicals before they can do any damage.

Free radicals are small oxygenated molecules that attack and destroy the cells of your body including your skin cells, where they rupture the cell membranes and so destroy them. Traffic fumes, pesticides, tobacco smoke, industrial emissions and the UV portion of sunlight all generate these free radicals in your skin. You might have heard of them.

Fortunately, there are substances that can destroy them known as antioxidants, and highly colored foods including green and purple olives are good sources of these antioxidants. They, too, are chemicals, but they are beneficial chemicals and olive oil skin care products are packed full of them. They contain polyphenols, flavanoids and catechins, all of which possess antioxidant properties, and destroy free radicals as soon as they are formed.

By consuming olive oil in your diet you can destroy free radicals in your bloodstream and prevent them from damaging your heart and cardiovascular system. However, that doesn't protect your skin. Rubbing olive oil into your skin does! The antioxidants it contains can destroy the free radicals that are formed in your skin before they can damage any of your skin cells, and you can therefore maintain a youthful-looking skin even as you age.

Not only that, but as new skin cells are developed in order to replace those that are damaged and shed, they too are attacked by free radicals, but olive oil skin care products can prevent that from happening so your wrinkled skin has a chance to heal itself, and you can begin to look young again.

This is no pipe dream or exaggerated advert, but scientific fact. Free radicals cause premature aging by destroying your skin cells and antioxidants destroy the free radicals: proven and well known scientific fact. It also proven scientific fact that olive oil is rich in antioxidants, and that it will destroy free radicals that try to attack your skin cells.

However, olive oil is best combined with other oils, such as hemp seed and shea oil, each of complements it to offer you completely natural substances that combine to offer you a comprehensive skin-care solution. Hemp oil provides Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids with their own specific antioxidant properties, and shea oil is soothing for dry skin and sunburn, and packed full of vitamins and minerals to make your skin simply glow!

The ancients were not stupid, as their advanced civilizations prove, and if it was good enough for them then it should be good enough for you. Why pay fortunes for expensive chemical-rich skin preparations when olive oil skin products will have the same effect? If you have hard skin on your hands and feet they will keep it soft and pliable.

Not only do they keep your skin looking beautiful and young, and also help repair damaged skin, but it is also hydrating, and will keep your nails soft and your hands, and can therefore be used as an effective chemical-free hand lotion. The oil can be used to help remove stretch marks and if you mix it with natural clay it makes a very effective face mask with a sound scientific basis. Not all face preparations have to smell great - in fact many that do contain harmful perfumes.

Olive oil is a very useful substance, and is used for a lot more than just cooking, Its use in olive oil skin care products enables you to maintain your tan without the tough leathery skin that many Californians and Australians develop, and to live longer with smooth, beautiful skin while holding back the years and the normal signs of aging. You will not find it as 100% olive oil, but when mixed with hemp seed and shea oil it offers you the opportunity of maintaining youthful skin.

How To Make A Clay Facial Mask At Home For Cheap

Author: <a title="Renee Vailes" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'renee-vailes/86576">Renee Vailes

Facial masks are your friend. As your skin is the largest organ in your body, it would behoove us to take better care of it. By hydrating, cleansing and exfoliating your skin, you are actually helping it protect you from a variety of viruses and other irritants that would do you harm. A skin mask goes on wet, and as it dries, it peels back to reveal a pinker, cleaner dermis. Think of a facial mask like a piece of scotch tape. You have a piece of fuzz on your shirt, you put a piece of tape on it and VOILA the fuzz is gone. Such is the nature of skin mask, as they dry they come off with impurities, dirt that has embedded itself in your pores and fine lines, revealing the new you underneath!

You can use a facial mask on any part of your body, but try it out first on the inside of your elbow or a small spot on the side of your neck. Never use anything new without doing this allergy check first!

We will begin by choosing the right clay for your skin type. Each clay has its own healing properties, so you have to know what you want your facial mask to do before you begin. Each of these types of clay masks should only be used once a week for best effects.

Green clay (i.e., Bentonite, Zeolite or New Mexico clay) helps to draw toxins from the skin and can calm inflammation. It is particularly good for acne or redness in the skin. The best and most active clay. Superior absorbent capacity, cleanses, clarifies and purifies the skin. This clay is extracted by hand; it is very pure, soft and revitalizing.

White clay (i.e., Kaolin clay, China clay, Cosmetic Clay) soothes and softens the skin and is suitable for all skin types. This is the gentlest of all the clays; even good for aged or dry skin.

Red (Moroccan) clay can be suitable for dry and sensitive skins. High presence of iron oxide. Rich in trace elements, cleanses the skin, revitalizes the appearance and leaves the complexion looking radiant.

Pink clay is particularly useful for toning dull, tired, or devitalized skin. It also has excellent cleansing properties. A balanced blend of iron oxide, silica and mineral salts. Medium absorbency and an effective cleanser for sensitive skin types. Smoothes and re-textures the skin.

These various facial clays can be found at your local health food store or if you wish to purchase online, I recommend Herbal Accents dot com (or even our online stores). They have inexpensive and high quality clays. Or do a websearch for "clay facial" and you may find many out there. I have found clays for sale on eBay, Bonanzle and Etsy. Do a thorough search and compare prices. Your facial mask should NOT break the bank.

HOW TO DO IT:

All the above can be mixed with your choice of wet or dry ingredients. Green tea, powdered milk, oatmeal, dried or powdered herbs, dried roses, lavender, etc. have all been added to the clays in various concentrations. Experiment with what feels good and smells good. Each dry ingredient will have its own special properties.

As far as wet ingredients go, the list is endless: essential oils (too numerous to list here!), olive oil, distilled water, vegetable oil, honey, yogurt, wine, mashed bananas or strawberries... let your imagination and budget be your guide. I personally prefer the following recipe for a rejuvenating, soothing and smoothing mask. I follow it with a light moisturizer:

1 tablespoon Bentonite Clay, 1 Tablespoon powdered milk (you can use regular milk for your hydrating ingredient here), 1/2 teaspoon finely ground oatmeal. If not using milk, wet dry ingredients with water in a bowl until it is the consistency of pudding and smooth on your face, avoiding the eyes of course, and wait approx 10 minutes for it to dry. As it dries you will feel it "pulling". Wash it off in the kitchen sink with warm water and then a quick splash of cool water to seal your pores. Makes me feel young and so smooth!

If you don't want to make your own, we sell a small variety of bentonite clay facial masks in our store on Etsy and in our Bonanzle store, too!

DEFINITIONS / TYPES OF CLAYS:

Bentonite clay, Kaolin clay, and Fuller's Earth are also suitable for using in face masks. The latter being excellent for oily and acne prone skin conditions. Bentonite (Montmorillonite) from Wyoming and Montana is a great toning and oily skin treatment. Kaolin clay is a fine, soft clay

*Rhassoul Clay - This clay is used frequently in health and beauty spas due to it's smooth texture. Rhassoul clay, found only deep beneath the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, has been used for over 1,400 years as a natural beauty treatment for skin and hair; even nobles in ancient Rome and Egypt took advantage of this remarkable beautifying clay.

*French Green Clay - Comes from France. This clay is very absorbent and is the best clay for pulling impurities from the skin. French green clay takes its name from the fact that rock quarries located in southern France enjoyed a virtual monopoly on its production until similar deposits of illite clays were identified in China, Montana, and Wyoming. It was used in ancient Egypt, Rome and Greece to treat a variety of skin problems and digestive disorders.

*Fuller's Earth Clay - This clay is well-known for it's skin lightening properties. It is also very good for oily skin. So mild, you can powder a baby's bottom with it! Mix it with baby powder for a wondrous foot powder.

*Bentonite Clay - This clay is made by volcanic ash in the US. It's most interesting property is that it's edible! It is used in natural health as an internal supplement to assist with mineral deficiencies. It is also used to purify the body and skin of toxins. Can be bought at some health food stores. We sell it online, too.

*Kaolin Clay - White Kaolin Clay is found in virtually all powdered and dry cosmetics and most wet cosmetics. Its natural absorbent properties makes it essential in hygiene products and is often found in soaps, scrubs, poultices, deodorants, facial powders and masks. It is the mildest of all clays and is suitable to add to products created for people with sensitive skin. It helps stimulate circulation to the skin while gently exfoliating and cleansing it. It does not draw oils from the skin, so it can also be used on dry skin types without negative results. Kaolin Clay is high in calcium, silica, zinc and magnesium, which are beneficial for oily, blemished skin. It is mined, as kaolin, in South America, the USA, Asia, Europe and Australia.

Best Moisturizing Hand Soap

Best Moisturizing Hand Soap

Author: <a title="Cherie Norquay" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'cherie-norquay/47130">Cherie Norquay

"Moisture Rich" is one of my most requested and best moisturizing hand soap recipes. I not only like to use this hand soap at my sink, I also like to use this soap in the shower because it is so moisturizing. What's the secret ingredient? Shea butter. Shea butter has special moisturizing qualities and I strive to preserve these qualities in my hand made soap. I like to think this soap is unique because the of the steps I take to create it. See for yourself below.

Best Moisturizing Hand Soap Recipe:

Ingredients:

25 oz. olive oil

10 oz. coconut oil

10 oz. palm oil

5 oz. shea butter

16 oz. water

7 oz. lye

Instructions:

I make this soap a little differently than my other soaps. I melt the coconut oil and palm oils together. Then I add the olive oil. When the oils and the lye/water (or lye/milk) slurry are both at about 110 degrees, I incorporate the slurry into the oils. When the soap is at very light trace, I then incorporate the melted shea butter. I like to incorporate the shea butter at this point, hoping that most of the shea butter will not react with the lye and retain it's moisturizing properties. I know there are still lots of free lye radicals in the soap, but hopefully most of them mixed with the other base oils.

I do not use any fragrance in this soap because I like to offer a few fragrance-free soaps. You can, however, use any fragrance you wish to in this soap. I always recommend using a fragrance that has been a good seller for you if you have been selling soap for quite a while. I have been very successful keeping this soap fragrance-free however (and this cuts the cost of producing the soap in half).

I like to use LIGHT olive oil so I get a very light (almost white) color bar of soap. If you use extra virgin olive oil, the bar will not look so white. If you use pomace oil, the soap will have a greenish look -- you will also need to consult a lye calculator because you may need to adjust the amount of olive oil if you are substituting pomace.

This recipe will produce 16 - 4 oz. bars of soap. If you reduce or increase the recipe size, be sure to double check your oil and lye amounts with a lye calculator. It always pays to be on the safe side. I usually make this soap in a large loaf mold that makes 64 bars of soap at a time.

Any soap maker would benefit from adding this best moisturizing hand soap recipe to their soap making repertoire.

If you are new to soap making you can check out my website at How to Make Soap where I have an on-line or DVD video soap making tutorial. You can watch me make soap right in my own kitchen. Dozens have learned to safely make soap. Many are now making money selling soap!

Tips on Caring for Diamond Jewelry
Author:

Tips on Caring for Diamond Jewelry

Author: <a title="Armando Ramirez" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'armando-ramirez/183991">Armando Ramirez

If you own precious jewelry such as diamond earrings, pendants, diamond rings, or other fine jewelry products, you can keep these items for a lifetime if you take care of them. Proper cleaning and storage will help your diamond jewelry stay beautiful for years to come.

Why Cleaning is Necessary

Diamond jewelry accumulates dirt and oil buildup after a while. This buildup comes from hand lotions, hair styling products, dust, and even perspiration. If you never clean your diamond jewelry, the buildup will only get worse and will finally turn into gunk on the back of your jewelry or stone. The buildup is usually not noticeable for a while, but before you know it, your diamond looks dull and dirty. You can clean jewelry at home or have a jeweler clean it for you.

How to Clean Diamond Jewelry

To clean diamond jewelry, create a solution using warm water and mild liquid dish detergent such as Ivory detergent. Ammonia solution or water solution may be used for fracture-filled diamonds. If other gemstones are included with your diamond, be extremely careful not to damage these during cleaning. There are also jewelry cleaning solutions available in the marketplace, but you can use the household remedy above to save time and money.

Soak the jewelry in the solution for a while and then use a soft brush to remove dirt and gunk from the jewelry. Never use a brush with hard or stiff bristles because this could scratch any metal areas of your jewelry. After cleaning with the brush, swish the jewelry around a few times in the solution. Then, rinse the jewelry in warm water. Always cover or close your drain before rinsing diamond jewelry over a sink. Small pieces may fall down the drain if you drop them.

If the jewelry still has some grime after cleaning, use a toothpick to get to those hard-to-reach places. Next, dry the jewelry as much as possible using a lint-free cloth.

You can use this cleaning method for diamond engagement rings, diamond bangles, diamond earrings, diamond pendants, diamond bracelets, and other diamond jewelry, but be sure to take all parts (bands, clasps, settings, other stones, and so forth) of the jewelry into consideration. If you're not sure, ask a jeweler to show you how to clean the item safely.

How to Store Diamond Jewelry

Diamond earrings, pendants, and jewelry should be stored so the jewelry doesn't rub together and get scratched. Use soft jewelry cloth to separate your different pieces of jewelry. Store your jewelry in a dry room or area of your home, safe from moisture or condensation. Also, keep your valuables in a safe, hidden place. Even with jewelry insurance coverage, losing a sentimental diamond ring or other diamond jewelry can be a heart-breaking experience.

For jewelry items very close to your heart such as a diamond engagement ring, never leave them lying around on a counter, dresser, or table where they can easily be knocked off. Place them in your jewelry box when you need to take them off for chores so you'll always know where they are.

Clean and store your diamond earrings, pendants, and jewelry safely, and they'll never lose their beautiful, shiny appeal.

Hair Styles - 5 Latest Hairstyle Trends for Men

Hair Styles - 5 Latest Hairstyle Trends for Men

Author: <a title="Tim Faber" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'tim-faber/64675">Tim Faber

Whether you prefer sporting short locks or a long mane, you have multiple options when it comes to the latest hair styles. With the ebb and flow of fashion accompanied by hairstyles to suit, the variety gives you an entirely new way of expressing yourself. In 2008, the look is clean.

Men's hairstyle trends have come full-circle from my dad's day - with crew cuts and butch wax, to a broad range of sophistication; but, the fashion word is clean....clean shaven and clean cut. The hair style can be long or short, but "keep it clean".

High and Tight

This all time favorite tops the hair trend list as being the base for nearly 75% of most popular styles currently being worn. With maximum versatility allowing for simple or extreme styling, this cut is notorious for its meticulous cropped cut on the sides and back of the head, with enough hair on top to comb or style.

Spike

Known as the sexy 'messy' look, this style is easy to achieve and takes less time than you take to brush your teeth. Based off the high and tight, add some gel and use your fingers to give it that 'just out of bed' look. Varying lengths of hair on top give great creativity options, leaving room for your own sense of style.

Crew Cut

For a comfortable no hassle style, there's always the ever present crew cut. Your barber simply buzzes it down to your desired length and shape. Most often associated with military, police, highway patrol, or servicemen, this style offers a sense of strength, authority, and confidence.

Texture Styles

For slightly longer hair, falling in the medium length category, texture is the key. With hair reaching three to four inches and mimicking past hairstyles, the addition of hair pomade or special gels gives you a daring look. Kick the style up a notch with some color or lightening techniques, giving your cut that razors edge appeal.

Adding Length

Taking the textured styles to another level by adding some length is probably the very latest in hair trends for men and one in which tops the list for celebrity hair styles. Giving a slightly messy look with another couple of inches added to the hair, you get a full boost in texture and cut.

The shorn edges give the razor cut new popularity while giving you a chance to relax your style. Pomade, gel, and many natural hair care products help keep those longer locks exactly where you want them.

No more assembly line style haircuts for men today. Those days went out of style along with plastic clothes and phones with cords. Hairstyle trends for men are sophisticated and of a huge variety with the help of sophisticated hair care. You get to celebrate your own sense of style and taste while embracing your differences.

Get your head in gear, choose your style and give the world a glimpse of the inner you. Hair styles are meant to be changed, and half the fun is trying something new.

Learn the Chemistry Behind the Best Facial Moisturizer

Author: <a title="Laurel Levine" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'laurel-levine/68000">Laurel Levine

Today, a patient with problem skin, namely dry skin, can go online, and seek information on the best facial moisturizer. Once he or she has examined the information on several web sites, then that same patient can better choose the best moisturizer for face dryness.

Selection and purchase of the best facial moisturizer was not always such a simple process. The early emulsions for the face did not come close to the quality of the best moisturizer for face problems of the 21st Century. Those early emulsions treated skin that had been exposed to sun, wind and cold. Present day moisturizers must treat skin that has been exposed as well to air conditioning, to central heating and also to the synthetic chemicals in so many of the make-up products that retailers now advertise.

Today, biochemists know much more about the various types of tissues in the skin. Medical scientists also know that an effective moisturizer needs to improve water retention in the epidermis, particularly in the group of tissues called the stratum corneum.

Today, chemists have improved upon their ability to make oil-in-water emulsions. Moisturizers, like salad dressing contain both a watery part and an oily part. Yet the makers of moisturizers do not want those two parts to separate, like they do in a bottle of salad dressing. Today, the makers of moisturizers can better guarantee the ability of a moisturizer to hold its watery part and its oily part together.

Thanks to the efforts of biochemists and chemists, the best facial moisturizer of today performs much better than the moisturizers of the past. Thanks to studies done in Research and Development labs, the best moisturizer for face problems of the 21st Century protects endothelial cells in the face against a host of different environmental factors.

Exposure to such factors can accelerate the aging process. Today, an increasing number of older adults use a moisturizing product on their face. When those adults have selected a moisturizer with care, they purchase one that can stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. How can an older adult benefit from a skin care product that simulates skin cells to make collagen and elastin? Those two proteins are present in all healthy endothelial cells. Yet as skin ages, it looses its ability to manufacture collagen and elastin.

Why is that significant? That is significant because collagen has fiber-like characteristics. Collagen provides cells with added strength. When skin cells contain an adequate amount of collagen, then they feel firm to the touch. When those same cells lack collagen, they can start to wrinkle and sag. The absence of collagen in aging cells accounts for the development of wrinkles and sagging skin on older adults.

While collagen can strengthen the cells on the face, collagen alone can not prevent aging of the skin. Young and healthy endothelial cells make elastin as well as collagen. The elastin in skin cells gives those cells an important flexibility. When those cells get pushed or stretched, they can return to their original position on the body.

When an older adult uses a skin treatment knowing that it's the best facial moisturizer and can stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, then they can feel rewarded each time that he or she looks in the mirror. Each glance will highlight the extent to which the endothelial cells on the face contribute to creation of a vital and youthful appearance.
